Weathering a Storm

If you experience a power outage, please alert us by calling Duke Energy's toll-free, automated outage reporting system at 800.543.5599. Those with access to the internet may report an outage using our online report form. Sign up here to receive phone or email alerts or text REG to 57801 for text alerts. Families who have special medical needs or elderly members should closely monitor weather forecasts and make plans for potential alternate arrangements should an extended outage occur. Consider all downed power lines and anything touching them energized and DANGEROUS! Do not get near them and report the problem to Duke Energy. To learn more, visit our website at Duke Energy.

Our Foundation

Did you know that Duke Energy granted over $200,000 to local organizations throughout the region for Workforce Development aimed at training/job opportunities in the energy industry? These local Kentucky organizations received grants! Please read their initiatives below:

• NKY Chamber – GROW NKY is a comprehensive, holistic workforce development and talent strategy, which is focused on leveraging the community’s full complement of assets to grow, attract and retain a globally competitive workforce.
• NaviGo – Programming designed to expose students to career opportunities in the energy industry – and help staff the next generation of careers in the energy industry.
• Gateway Community and Technical College – Creating an accelerated utility lineworker certificate program designed to train individuals who desire to become utility lineworkers.
• Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission – YouthBuild is a program that works with young adults and will apply its $10,000 grant from Duke Energy to add an enhanced operator certificate training program in cooperation with Gateway Community and Technical College.

Vegetation Management

To maintain reliable service and minimize outages, it is important that we maintain trees and other vegetation along the lines that deliver electricity to our customers. We hire qualified, trained tree personnel to inspect and clear vegetation that poses a threat to our power lines. We use integrated vegetation management (IVM) practices that are based on the voltage and type of line, as well as the type of vegetation and its proximity to the line.

Planned Vegetation Management

Methods for systematically addressing vegetation that will interfere with the operation of power lines. We use specific information such as reliability data and other indicators to prioritize lines for tree pruning and removal.

Reactive Vegetation Management

Reactive vegetation management is cutting vegetation with a high or demonstrated risk of interference with lines.

Tree Felling

There are a variety of factors that determine whether or not a tree must be trimmed or cut down. Felling trees is cutting down trees inside or outside the right of way that are at risk of falling on or otherwise threatening power lines.
